My partner is on a FNQ DAMA visa in Cairns — can they apply for a partner visa?
Yes. A DAMA visa holder in Australia can be sponsored for an onshore partner visa (820/801) by their Australian citizen or permanent resident partner. The partner visa is not tied to the DAMA conditions — the applicant’s bridging visa allows them to remain in Australia during processing regardless of any regional conditions on the DAMA visa. We advise on the interaction between the two visa types at the consultation stage.
What evidence helps a Cairns couple's partner visa application?
Standard evidence across financial, social, commitment, and household categories is required. Yes. Dependent children — of either the applicant or the sponsor — can be included in the partner visa application. A child’s inclusion adds health and character assessment requirements.
