Step 2
Standard Business Sponsorship

Standard Business Sponsorship. We prepare the application if your business is not already approved. Approval takes four to eight weeks for businesses with a clean compliance history.

Step 3
Nomination

Nomination. The role is assessed against the ANZSCO classification and confirmed against the salary threshold. Labour market testing is completed and documented before lodgement.

Step 4
Visa Application

Visa application. The worker lodges once nomination is approved. A 482 visa typically processes in two to four months from this point.

Post-grant Briefing

How long does a 482 visa take to process for Gold Coast employers?

From nomination approval: two to four months. Sponsorship approval, if not already held, adds four to eight weeks. Total elapsed time from first engagement is commonly four to six months for clean cases. Roles requiring skills assessments, or candidates with character or health matters, take longer — we estimate that specifically for your situation.

Can I sponsor a chef or cook on the Gold Coast?

Yes. Chef (ANZSCO 351311) and Cook (ANZSCO 351411) are on the Core Skills Occupation List. The role must be full-time and the salary must meet the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT). Hospitality employers with a clean compliance history generally move through the process without issue. For businesses with ongoing sponsorship needs, a Hospitality Industry Labour Agreement may provide additional flexibility.

What are the labour market testing requirements for a Gold Coast employer?

Before nominating an overseas worker, employers must demonstrate genuine attempts to source the role locally. This means advertising the position for at least four weeks through appropriate channels, retaining records of all applications received, and documenting why no suitable Australian candidate was available. Can a sponsored worker on the Gold Coast buy property?

A 482 visa holder can generally apply for a mortgage in Australia, though lenders assess temporary residents differently. Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) approval may be required for certain property purchases. This falls outside our scope of advice — we recommend speaking with a mortgage broker experienced with temporary residents. We can refer you to a specialist if needed.

What happens if my sponsored worker wants to leave my business?

A 482 visa is tied to the sponsoring employer. If employment ceases, the worker has 180 days to find a new approved sponsor, lodge a different visa, or depart. If you want to transfer the sponsorship to a new employer, that employer must be approved and must lodge a new nomination. We manage transfer processes. The original employer must notify the Department of the employment cessation.
