What is the Far North Queensland DAMA and how does it help Cairns employers?
The Far North Queensland Designated Area Migration Agreement (FNQ DAMA) is a special arrangement between the Australian Government and the FNQ regional authority. It allows Cairns-area employers to sponsor workers in occupations not covered by the standard 482 program, sometimes at lower salary thresholds. Accessing the DAMA requires employer registration and approval, not every business qualifies automatically. We assess eligibility at the strategy stage.
What occupations does the FNQ DAMA cover that are not on the 482 list?

How does a Cairns worker get permanent residence?

Workers on a DAMA or subclass 494 may also be eligible for the subclass 191 (Permanent Residence, Skilled Regional) after three years. The right pathway depends on the original visa type and the employer’s circumstances at the time.
Can I sponsor an agricultural worker via a standard 482 visa in Cairns?
Some agricultural roles are on the Core Skills Occupation List; others are not. If the role is not on the standard 482 list, the FNQ DAMA may provide access.
